چکیده

Rhamnus alaternus is a Mediterranean shrub that has been used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases. This study aimed determine the phenolic composition, as well antioxidant and antihemolytic activities of R. leaves (LRA) bark (BRA), extracts against AAPH-induced hemolysis. The extraction yields were 19.8% 18.2% for bark. Total polyphenols (88.1 ± 1.83 mg GAE/g) condensed tannins (36.24 5.44 CE/g) higher BRA extract than LRA (80.22 1.4 GAE/g 23.48 0.25 CE/g, respectively). However, was found be richer total flavonoids (64.6 2.6 QE/g) flavones/flavonol (18.34 1.65 (39.87 ±0.58 QE/g 10.08 0.35 QE/g), respectively. IC50 DPPH ABTS radical scavenging activity 86.59 2 µg/ml 12.49 0.29 69.23 2.14 12.83 0.13 extract, Also, both showed good reducing power with 157.09 5.53 Asc E/g 194.97 1.46 extract. hemolytic effect tested on human erythrocytes, did not have cytotoxic effects at low doses. To induce hemolysis, AAPH concentration 200 mM an incubation time 4h. two pretreatment erythrocytes doses significantly reduced hemolysis dose-dependent manner. Indeed, µg/ml, percentages inhibition 99.41 1.17% 76.26 12.03% extracts, more effective (IC50 = 106.70 1.48 µg/ml) compared 148.64 7.04 µg/ml). Our results demonstrate first attenuates can prevent anemias.

Toxic Effects of Rhamnus alaternus: A Rare Case Report

In Tunisia, there are about 478 species of plants commonly used in folk medicine. Medicinal plants and herbal remedies used are responsible for 2% of intoxications listed by Tunisian National Poison Center. Most cases are related to confusion between edible plants and toxic plants lookalikes or to an excessive consumption of therapeutic plants. We report the case of a 58-year-old man admitted t...

Cytoprotective Effect of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Pinus eldarica Bark against H2O2-Induced Oxidative Stress in Human Endothelial Cells

Background: Pinus eldarica is a widely growing pine in Iran consisting of biologically active constituents with antioxidant properties. This study investigates the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of P. eldarica bark against oxidative damage induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Methods: The total phenolic content of p. eldarica extract was dete...

Critical stages in the recruitment process of Rhamnus alaternus L.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Rhamnus alaternus is a Mediterranean shrub commonly used in reforestation programs. Although several aspects of its reproductive biology have been studied, little is known about the importance of the different recruitment stages in the overall regeneration process of this species, which limits its proper use in Mediterranean forests and shrubland management. The aim of the p...
